Aloha Council Member Kagiwada,
I am writing in support of the Hualalai Court Affordable Workforce Housing application to build
104 affordable apartments in your district.
My name is Taylie Oshiro. I am a senior at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. I am
planning to graduate in May of 2025. I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii and am
planning on moving back home once I am finished with school. I am writing this letter in support
of this affordable housing project. Luckily, I am fortunate enough to have hard working parents
who did not struggle in finding housing all our lives, however, I do know families who have been
struggling and jumping from house to house. It's a scary situation seeing people you love dearly
struggle to keep a roof over their families heads and watch them worry if they will have a place
to sleep for the next few nights. Although I have been living in a stable home with parents who
make enough money to keep a roof over our heads, with the cost of living increasing each year, it
makes me wonder if I will be able to make enough money to support myself and live on my own.
When moving home, I plan to move out of my parents home and buy a place of my own. I want
to be able to not have to rely on my parents as they won't be around forever. I would also like to
not have to worry about whether or not the roof above my head will be taken away or have to

determine which bills to pay because I don't have enough finds to cover everything. I support
this project in hopes to have a place of my own that I can afford as well as ease the worries of
being out of a home.
