A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO ʻAHA PŪNANA LEO,
INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO THE 22nd ANNUAL PŪLAMA MAULI OLA.
WHEREAS, ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) Native Hawaiian nonprofit organization whose mission is the revitalization, growth, usage, and spread of the ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (the Hawaiian
language) as one of the two official languages of Hawaiʻi; and
WHEREAS, ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc., is partnering with Ke Kula ʻo Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu (Nāwahī) for its Pūlama Mauli Ola event held on February 15, 2025, at Hilo; and
WHEREAS, Pūlama Mauli Ola is a unified Hawaiian language and culture event for the community to witness and be immersed in the life of Hawaiian language and value the history through
cultural activities, performances, enrichment, and demonstrations; and
WHEREAS, the 22nd Annual Pūlama Mauli Ola is a drug-free, alcohol-free, family-friendly event has grown over the past years and will be relocated from its original location in Keaʻau
to the Edith Kanakaʻole Multi-Purpose Stadium; and
WHEREAS, ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc., is requesting funds for the costs for the facility rental, rental of sound equipment, marketing, banners, posters, radio advertisements, and security
services; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that comply with liquor laws at drug-free and alcohol-free community events; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to ʻAha Pūnana Leo, Inc., to assist with expenses for the 22nd Annual Pūlama Mauli Ola.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
