Dear Mr. Chung:
My husband and I as long time residents of Oahu have been watching Green Harvest and its
subsequent incarnations for years We have become convinced that marijuana eradication
campaigns do fa, more .harm than good. We are also concerned that the programs have never
been properly audited nor has a cost-benefit analysis been done.
We also are of the belief, that the high prices for marijuana, brought about by the eradication
campaigns, haN e forced many young people to turn to the use of far more harmful drugs such as
ice, crack cocaine and heroin - all of which enjoy vez-y low prices today. We are also aware that
residents of the targc:icd areas, including the innocent ones, feel as though they live in a war zone
due to the fi•equer_t helicopter overflights.
We urge your commitiee and the foil council to reject the Federal grant for marijuana eradication
when it comes up fora vote. Nor should arty additional county or state funds be expended on
this fruitless and above all counter-productive activity, The money should instead be allocated for
effective drug education programs to try to discourage use of all psychoactive substances.
