Council Testimony
Subject:
Segawa nomination
Aloha Members of the County Council,
I strongly oppose the nomination of Wesley Segawa as Director of the Department of Environmental
Management (DEM).
Segawa has a past felony for a money laundering conviction and violations of campaign
finance laws In 2004, in which he pleaded no contest to laundering over $60,000 in illegal
campaign donations!
His engineering firm, Wesley R. Segawa and Associates was fined $53,500 for illegal contributions.
This is not a man we want in any position for the County!
Mr. Segawa's record, preparedness, and conflicts of interest raise significant concerns that cannot
be ignored!
It would be a conflict of interest to have him in this position as he has a business, which holds a $4
million contract with the County.
PLUS, Segawa 's resignation as chairman of the state public housing agency under
allegations of mismanagement and you want to put him in another position!
Let the corruption end! Start appointing people who have Hawaii in their heart and are
pono, in their role in government. Mr. Segawa IS CLEARLY NOT that person!
I urge you to reject this nomination and demand better for the people of Hawai'i County.
Mahalo,
John Burdick
