Subject: Oppose nominee Wesley Segawa
Aloha Chair, Vice Chair, and Members of the County Council,
I strongly oppose the nomination of Wesley Segawa as Director of the Department of Environmental
Management (DEM). Mr Segawa not only shows no record that he is prepared for the position but his
background is dangerous. His criminal felony record for unscrupulous business dealings alone should
make him ineligible for this postion. In addition, his conficts of interest should require he not persue
this role. His engineering company holds a four million dollar contract with the County of Hawaii.
As a resident of Hawaii County his nomination raises serious concerns to me. I hope you will also
question his integrity, ethical judgment, and ability to serve in a position of public trust.
The people of Hawaii County deserve a Director of Environmental Management with a proven track
record of leadership, integrity, and readiness to address pressing issues. Trust and transparency are
of of the utmost importance.
I urge you to reject this nomination and insist on leadership prioritizing environmental stewardship,
community well-being, and the long-term interests of Hawai'i's residents.
Mahalo for your time and consideration.
