Aloha Hawaii County Council,
I am writing in strong support of Resolution 46-25, which would approve the award of
Round 3 funds to nonprofit organizations addressing housing and homelessness on
Hawaii Island. The RFP process is rigorous and specific for award recipients. I ask that
you honor funding to those organizations who met the criteria and were selected so they
may continue their crucial services.
The devastating effects of economic instability and lack of affordable housing all
contribute to the rising rates of homelessness in our community. Our local nonprofits,
such as Neighborhood Place of Puna, address these challenges by providing essential
services that help individuals and families find stable housing, access critical resources,
and ultimately regain their independence. However, these programs cannot function
without the necessary funding and staff. Service delays create significant disruptions,
preventing favorable outcomes and additional time that people remain on the streets.
