This resolution is critical because it allows the organizations that are truly making a difference in our community to continue their essential work without interruption. Addressing homelessness is not just a policy issue for me —it's deeply personal. I've witnessed the pain and suffering that homelessness causes to our most vulnerable neighbors, whether it's families forced to live in cars, kupuna without safe shelter, or keiki who should be focused on their education but are instead worried about where they will sleep at night. These are not just statistics —these are real people who deserve better. The organizations that are laying the foundation for a safer, more stable Hawai'i cannot continue their work without immediate and reliable funding. If funding is delayed, we risk losing these critical services, and more people will be left vulnerable and without hope, when they could be on the path to stability and a better future. Every day of delay is another day our community suffers. In a time when federal funding is increasingly uncertain due to the President's executive orders, the importance of local leadership and support for these organizations has never been more urgent. We cannot afford to wait for federal solutions —we must act locally to protect our most vulnerable, and we must do it now. The people on our streets cannot wait any longer. We cannot allow another day to pass without ensuring that the programs designed to help them can continue their life-saving work. Please pass Resolution 46-25 today, so we can provide those in need with the opportunity to regain stability, rebuild their futures, and thrive within our community.
