A. REQUEST:

The Hawai'i Police Department is requesting the creation of a full-time Custodian/Groundskeeper I position
within the Administrative Services Bureau, Technical Services Division, Communications, that will be
assigned to clean and maintain the new Communications Call Center.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Communications (Dispatch) section will be transferring to a new communications call center that will be
combined with Hawaii Fire Department Communications. The Communications section is currently located at
349 Kapiolani Street where janitorial services are provided by the ARC of Hilo. However, once the new call
center is occupied, the Department will be unable to use ARC of Hilo services. After extensive research and
discussion, it was determined that a Custodian/Groundskeeper position will need to be created.
The creation of a custodian/groundskeeper position will ensure that the facility is routinely cleaned and
maintained, to include, but is not limited to, wiping, dusting, and polishing office furniture, desks, cabinets,
countertops, etc.; sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, hallways, stairways, etc.; disinfecting floors,
urinals, toilets, basins, countertops, etc.; cleaning entrance way, sidewalks, parking areas; sweeps, picks up
debris, and water plants; and other related duties as necessary.
