HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 081 Draft 01 2024-2026A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KA LAʻI A ʻEHU TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE OLA KA ʻĪ KONA EVENT IN WEST HAWAI‘I. WHEREAS, Ka Laʻi a ʻEhu is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to contribute to the growth and development of Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino, a Hawaiian language school located in Kealakekua; and WHEREAS, Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino has 284 students, kindergarten to twelfth grade, and is committed to perpetuating the language, customs, traditions, skills, spirituality, and character of the Hawaiian people; and WHEREAS, Ka Laʻi a ʻEhu is working in partnership with Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino to host Ola Ka ʻĪ Kona, a free community event to be held on March 1, 2025, at the Keauhou Shopping Center, to celebrate Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawai‘i (Hawaiian Language Month), by promoting the use of Hawaiian language; and WHEREAS, this event will include founders, graduates, and kumu of Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino, Kamehameha Preschool, and other schools within the West Hawai‘i Complex area; and WHEREAS, the Ola Ka ʻĪ Kona event will also honor Keauhou, and Hawai‘i He‘e Hōlua, with a modern day slide and free keiki activities regarding Hawaiian culture and language, and will include student performances, project displays and vendors; and WHEREAS, Ka Laʻi a ʻEhu is requesting funds to assist with expenses for sound system services, cotton candy, face painting, modern day Heʻe Hōlua, and other keiki activity materials and supplies for this event; and WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth programs that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment, such as the Ola Ka ʻĪ Kona event; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to Ka Laʻi a ʻEhu to assist with expenses related to the Ola Ka ʻĪ Kona event in West Hawai‘i. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $4,806 OUT AND FROM: 010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $4,806 CREDITED TO: 010.251.5251.39 Department of Liquor Control $4,806 Public Programs 115 Misc. Contract Services (Ka Laʻi a ʻEhu – Ola Ka ʻĪ Kona) BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
