Subject: Urgent: Protect Big Island Resources—Oppose Res. 51-25, Bill 17, Bill 18, and Res.
57-25
Dear County Council,
Before approving more developments, it is your responsibility to assess the current impact on the island's
resources—power, water, and waste management. Ongoing power outages, water shortages, and landfill
capacity issues must be addressed before adding to the strain with further construction.
Please OPPOSE the following measures:
• Res. 51-25- More hotel rooms were just approved last week, yet no steps have been taken to improve
critical infrastructure. Prioritize existing needs before adding more strain.
• Bill 17 & Bill 18-These proposals would rezone from Agriculture to Urban, bypassing Environmental
Impact Studies (EIS). Skipping this process puts the land, community, and resources at risk.
• Res. 57-25- Instead of spending over$249,000 in the first year alone on Electronic Citations, the County
should focus on basic community needs like repairing the sewage system and restoring public restrooms
at Old A's.
The island's resources are already stretched thin. Infrastructure must come first. Please oppose these measures
and focus on sustainable planning for the future of Hawai'i Island.
Mahalo for your time and consideration.
