'7 I4 Subject: Support for Resolution 51-25 for Hualalai Court Affordable Workforce Housing t,-.) Aloha Council Chair and Members, On behalf of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, I am writing in support of the Hualalai Court Affordable Workforce Housing application to build 104 affordable apartment units in your district. Thank you, Legislative Approvals and Acquisition Committee members,for your unanimous support and for moving this project forward for County Council approval. As you know housing is a challenge for our A.L.I.C.E. families. The adults in these families are those who provide our public servants, our teachers, medical support staff, our safety officers, our restaurant and office workers. Among our parishioners,we see our young people doubling up with parents and grandparents for help with raising children and for housing. While that is the loving thing to do,we see the strain on the families. Or we see them moving to the mainland. Then Kapuna lose the support they need from family nearby to live an independent lifestyle.The whole faith community loses the vibrancy of those who move away because they have opportunities for a long-term sustainable lifestyle elsewhere. The Hualalai Court Workforce Housing Project will add 104 two-and three-bedroom affordable units to the rental housing stock.This project is in Hilo,outside of our parish boundaries but we are one ohana who have family members who live and or work on the east side. The project has received substantial funding from the state. It is on Governor Green's emergency proclamation top ten priority list. We support County Council approval to move this project forward.
