Re: Mohouli Street Extension
Informational Meeting Thursday, April 13, 2000
S:OOPM, Hilo High School Cafeteria
Dear Councilmember Bobbie Jean Leithead-Todd:
I, Roy Sonomura, President of M. Sonomura Contracting Co., Inc., support the construction of
the Mohouli Street extension as presently con£gured.
This issue has been approved as part of the County General Plan since 1959, as part of a
necessary network of access expansion in the Kaumana area. The record indicates many levels of
community meetings and discussion, formal public hearings and a Finding of No Significant
Impact (FONS]) in 1998.
The intent of all roadway projects in the area is to provide several safe, efficient, alternative
routes to alleviate congestion and open up convenient access from Kaumana to Waiakea,
encouraging traffic dispersal along several comdors including Mohouli, Puainako and
Ponahawai. This is a long-term project with federal, state and county participation and will
provide much-needed linkage for the growing population mauka of Komohana Street.
We encourage concerned parties iu ouusuit uiroct;y ~alii: qualified traf e managen.ent specialists
and engineers to resolve perceived concerns.
Yours sincerely,
Roy Sonomura,
President
