Subject: Testimony in Support of Laura Acasio for OSCER Administrator
Aloha esteemed members of the County Council, -
1 am honored to submit testimony in strong support of Laura Acasio's appointment as Administrator of
the Office of Sustainability, Climate Equity, and Resilience. Over the past year and a half, 1 have had the
privilege of working closely with Laura in many aspects of community work, as a member of her
campaign team and as we walked Hilo together, knocking on hundreds of doors and listening to the
concerns of our community firsthand.
Laura's leadership is rooted in deep humility, active listening, and an unwavering dedication to those she
serves. Whether as a State Senator advocating for climate resilience, a community organizer
championing environmental justice, or an educator empowering others through knowledge, she has
demonstrated a lifelong commitment to sustainability and equity. Her ability to bring people together,
build consensus, and take action is exactly what Hawaii County needs in this critical role.
During her time in the Senate, Laura worked on policies that secured resources for sustainability
initiatives, strengthened climate resilience, and advanced environmental justice. She has shown that
she understands the importance of community -driven decision -making and has actively built
partnerships across sectors to ensure that Hawai`i's environmental policies reflect the needs of its
people. Her background in education shines in her ability to communicate complex issues in an
accessible way, ensuring that sustainability efforts remain inclusive and effective.
Beyond her policy work, Laura has hands-on experience in resource management, grant coordination
and strategic planning —all essential skills for the OSCER Administrator. She has worked to identify and
facilitate grant opportunities that support climate resilience projects as a State Senator, ensuring that
local organizations and government initiatives have the resources they need to succeed. Her ability to
navigate funding processes wilt be an asset to OSCER as it expands its impact.
Most importantly, Laura leads with integrity, perseverance, and a deep respect for the people and places
she serves. She moves through the world with a humble grace that reflects the depth of her character.
She never gives anything less than her best, and I have no doubt that in this role, she will bring the same
tireless work ethic, passion for equity, and commitment to long-term climate solutions that she has
demonstrated throughout her career.
Hawaii County would be fortunate to have her at the helm of OSCER, and I wholeheartedly support her
confirmation. Mahalo for your time and consideration.
