JNTV Of H�'f <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII ' $4 <br />T6.OFNA <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO BIRD AND BEE <br />HAWAI`I ANIMAL SANCTUARY TO SUPPORT ITS THIRD ANNUAL WORLD BEE <br />DAY EVENT. <br />WHEREAS, Bird and Bee Hawaii Animal Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization, is dedicated to providing a safe haven for animals and honey bees through <br />protection, rehabilitation, and education, fostering a balanced and sustainable coexistence on <br />Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, bees are essential to Hawai`i's environment, agricultural systems, and to <br />the sustainability of local ecosystems and food production; and <br />WHEREAS, World Bee Day serves to educate the public and raise awareness about the <br />importance of protecting and promoting bee populations, which are facing significant threats <br />from habitat loss, climate change, disease, and misinformation; and <br />WHEREAS, Bird and Bee Hawaii Animal Sanctuary will host the third annual World <br />Bee Day event at the Mokupapapa Discovery Center on May 17, 2025, which will be a free <br />event and consist of educational discussions, demonstrations, and interactive activities that <br />highlight the critical role of bees, sustainable beekeeping practices, honey displays and tastings, <br />and the importance of environmental stewardship; and <br />WHEREAS, Bird and Bee Hawaii Animal Sanctuary is seeking funds for honey <br />sampling supplies, beeswax and melters, wicks and jars for demonstrations, art materials and <br />supplies for hands-on activities, educational brochures and banners, and venue rental fees for the <br />third annual World Bee Day event; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports sustainable <br />agricultural practices that increase consumption of local agricultural and value-added products <br />by expanding marketing and education at the local, national, or international levels; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to Bird and Bee Hawaii Animal Sanctuary to <br />support its third annual World Bee Day event. <br />
