HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 103 Draft 01 2024-2026A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE ARTS AND SCIENCES
CENTER FOR ITS DRIVER’S EDUCATION TRAFFIC SAFETY FAIR IN PĀHOA.
WHEREAS, the Arts and Science Center (ASC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports community development, greater access to education, and improving the quality of life through
learning with aloha; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Academy of Arts and Science (HAAS) aims to educate, enrich, and inspire the whole student to thrive by understanding the past, navigating the present, and preparing
for the future; and
WHEREAS, the ASC is working with HAAS to present Puna’s inaugural Driver’s Education Traffic Safety Fair on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the William “Billy” Kenoi District Park Gymnasium
in Pāhoa to promote safe driving habits and community awareness; and
WHEREAS, the fair will host interactive learning experiences and simulations, hands-on driving challenges, and safety demonstrations on key traffic concerns such as blind spot zones,
school bus safety, and Hawai‘i’s Move-Over Law; and
WHEREAS, the ASC is requesting funds for fair coordination, event photography, complimentary food vouchers for attendees, sound system rental, paper goods, decorations, light refreshments
for resource booths, and printing costs for marketing materials; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports drug-free and alcohol-free events that enrich the lives of community members; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to the Arts and Sciences Center for its Driver’s Education Traffic Safety Fair in Pāhoa.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
