J-19 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MERRIE <br />MONARCH FESTIVAL FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 62ND ANNUAL <br />MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL. <br />WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that <br />perpetuates the memory and legacy of King David Kalakaua through an internationally <br />renowned annual celebration of hula and Hawaiian culture; and <br />WHEREAS, the week-long festival will begin on April 20, 2025, and includes an <br />invitational arts fair, cultural demonstrations, hula performances, and a parade that showcases the <br />many cultures of Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is requesting funds for expenses related to the <br />62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival for security and traffic services provided by off -duty <br />Police Officers; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide <br />variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness <br />of Hawai`i's rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Merrie Monarch Festival for expenses related to <br />the 62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
