RESOLUTION NO. J-19 25
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MERRIE
MONARCH FESTIVAL FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 62ND ANNUAL
MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that
perpetuates the memory and legacy of King David Kalakaua through an internationally
renowned annual celebration of hula and Hawaiian culture; and
WHEREAS, the week-long festival will begin on April 20, 2025, and includes an
invitational arts fair, cultural demonstrations, hula performances, and a parade that showcases the
many cultures of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is requesting funds for expenses related to the
62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival for security and traffic services provided by off -duty
Police Officers; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide
variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness
of Hawai`i's rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to The Merrie Monarch Festival for expenses related to
the 62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
