He: Marijuana Eradication Funding
Dear Julie,
Please accept this written testimony on my behalf and insure
that it is included and accounted for at the July 26, 2000 meeting
of the County Council.
I am writing to urge and request that the County Council reject
future funding from the federal government for the marijuana eradi-
cation program. It is my experience that the helicopters used in this
program fly irresponsibly and dangerously. It has also been my
exuerience to be harassed indiscriminately by these helicopters to
the point of causing me extreme distress and ill health.
These federal grants have led to corruption at the highest
levels of the police dept. in Hawaii County. There is no proof or
assurance that the harvested marijuana is destroyed. It is an extremely
valuable commodity and is commonly believed by many that the police
resell it on the black market. This has led to an increase in violent
crime and distribution of hard and lethal drugs, such as heroin and
crystal methamphetamine. The use of these drugs has caused the loss;
of life through ill health, addicted infants, murders, suicides, and
the breakdown of the family.

- funding and find more equitable solutions to the marijuana farmers.
