To the Council Committee on Government Operations and External Affairs:
I want to go on record that I am opposed to any MOU with Immigration Control. I have worked professionally as a child
psychologist with young children for many years. I know the fear they feel that the current immigration policy will
deprive them of their parents. Despite being given objective information and reassurance from teachers and community
members, this fear overlays their everyday life. In closely collaborating with ICE, you are exacerbating their fear. Your
association with ICE risks creating many years of distrust by our growing keikis of the agency that you would like them to
depend upon. For some children, this becomes another form of trauma. I am opposed to any interactions with ICE that
will merge their immigration experience with the many ways they see you as their protector and defender.
