Council Testimony
Res. 74-25 testimony
I'm writing to ask that you tighten the MOU between HPD and federal agencies, in particular with ICE
and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). The current language is too broad and can be
interpreted to the detriment of our community. ICE and HSI presence in HPD offices raises concerns
about collaboration, both indirect and direct, between our police and federal immigration forces.
Stronger, more restrictive language is needed to prevent HPD from assisting in federal immigration
enforcement, specifically in light of this current administration in Washington, DC.
Please work with Aloha Latinos, The Legal Clinic, and the Hawai' i Coalition for Immigrant Rights on
language and advocate for changes. This helps to protect our community, all of our community, to feel
safe and welcomed.
Do not comply with federal forces in advance - we must protect "the least of these" in our community.
Immigrants make our community stronger and we must stand with them.
Agreements with Homeland Security do not make our community safer.
Thank you,
Noelle Lindenmann (she/her/hers)
