Subject: Oppose ICE using HPD officers to deport immigrants
As a Hawaii Island resident, I strongly oppose the use of HPD officers to assist ICE personnel in deporting
immigrants in my community
Our island police are already shorthanded. It takes at least an hour for police to arrive when called from
Ocean Vie w, even when violence is reported. If some of our officers are used to assist ICE, fewer will be
available to protect Big Island residents.
Please at least defer action once again to amend the proposed Memorandum of Understanding, Res 74-
25, to avoid giving the federal agencies a blank check at our expense. Resolution 74-25 states it is, "for
the purpose of serving and protecting the County of Hawaii." Deportations of law-abiding immigrants is
not serving and protecting our county and must not become the duty of HPD officers!
Sincerely,
Linda Morgan
