As a native Hawaiian, resident of this area, and a retired director for MinorityAccess and Achievement
Program at the University of Hawai' i at Hilo, I understand the value of this rare place and the importance
ofpreserving itfor the community touse. |tiorich inresources aaanaccess tofertile fishing sites and
the abundant `o`opuand prawns inthe streams. | have taken students tnthis area for years toexplore
the coastal area and toappreciate i1aaarecreation site. The area iobreathtaking and energizing tOswim
in. This site has been very inspirational tOthese young people @Gmany have never experienced
hiking and swimming iOsuch apristine area. They also feet osense ofaccomplishment descending and
ascending the terrain ofthis magnificent place. Ever since | can remember the community has utiiized
the bridge area for swimming, and catching Op@H.The shoreline was 8popular site for fishermen. L8t8h/
the area to the lower stream and falls and ocean has been inaccessible to the pubtic. The owners have
put Up8fence and ithas become 3Dovergrown jungle. ItiSsuch 8shame and Iknow itVVDU[dbgutilized
by the community and others if it were accessible.
| hope that you will agree and support this purchase. bwill b88worthwhile investment. |8rDappalled at
the prospect of turning this special. ptace into a residential development. I hope that it is communicated
that this development proposal witt be vehemently opposed by the community and I'm counting on the
County Council toalso oppose this as well. Maha|ofor your consideration.
