SUBJECT: Proposed Amendment to Bill No. 21; AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 15, OF THE HAWAI`I COUNTY CODE 1983
(2016 EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO NEPOTISM.
Transmitted herewith is a proposed amendment to Bill No. 21. The proposed amendment is
shown below in Ramseyer format with respect to the content of Bill No. 21; material to be
deleted is bracketed and stricken, and material to be added is underscored.
SECTION 3 of Bill No. 21, which amends chapter 2, article 15, section 2-82, of the Hawaii
County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended) by adding a definition, is amended by amending
the definition of "Immediate family member" to read as follows:

An employee's or officer's parent, grandparent, stepparent, child, grandchild,
stepchild, foster child, adopted child, sibling, half -sibling, stepsibling, foster
sibling, adopted sibling, parent's sibling, first cousin, sibling's child, spouse
spouse's parent, child -in-law, or sibling -in-law, or any individual who has
become an employee's or officer's child or sibling through informal adoptive
practices; and
(3)] Q An individual who resides in the same dwelling unit as an employee or
officer.
