About the Workforce Advancement Initiative (WAI) Our Workforce Advancement Initiative (WAI) focuses on our role as a Work -Based Learning intermediary between Kona's public schools and industry partners to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and career skills. This initiative addresses the needs of students in rural and under-resourced areas by offering career awareness, exploration, preparation, and training. We create employer engagement & hands-on experiences in Career and Technical Education (CTE) to enhance employability skills and prepare students for successful careers. Program activities for grades 6-12 include: Career fairs Guest speakers Mock interviews Industry mentorship Job shadowing Internships *47. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement 'Ewalu Industries is a Hawai'i Island -based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering the next generation of young leaders in Hawaii. Our Work -Based Learning (WBL) program is designed to bridge the gap between dassroom instruction and high -skill careers in rural & under-resourced areas of Kona. The program creates employer engagement & hands-on experiences in Career and Technical Education (CTE) to enhance employability skills and prepare students for successful careers. We leverage partnerships with schools, local employers, and community organizations to provide WBL activities: guest speakers, mock interviews, career fairs, industry mentoring, job shadowing, and internships. The program increases student engagement, develops soft & technical skills, fosters sustainable industry partnerships, and manages 60-120 hour, paid high school internships in various sectors.
