COUNTY OF HAWAI`I •_ _* STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />�TE•OF'Ntd <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1.31 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KONA <br />HISTORICAL SOCIETY FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS EXHIBITS ON <br />REGIONAL BEEKEEPING. <br />WHEREAS, the Kona Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and long- <br />standing Smithsonian Affiliate that has spent the past four decades collecting, preserving, and <br />sharing the history of the Kona districts and their rich cultural heritage within Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kona Historical Society's vision is to connect past, current, and future <br />generations to Kona's history and inspire an appreciation for its heritage; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kona Historical Society Museum will feature exhibits that capture the <br />history of beekeeping in Kona; and <br />WHEREAS, the exhibits will be on display for up to four months and will include a <br />timeline of the early challenges and triumphs of bringing bees to Hawaii, and how their <br />introduction impacted native pollinators and the ecosystem; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kona Historical Society is requesting funds for its marketing and <br />advertising expenses, to inform and educate the community of the significant economic impact <br />of beekeeping on Kona's agriculture; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Research and Development is to <br />support sustainable agricultural practices by promoting educational opportunities designed to <br />build skills and capacity in the farm community; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to the Kona Historical Society for expenses <br />relating to its exhibits on regional beekeeping. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
