ON MAY 9, 2025.
WHEREAS, the month of May is recognized as Older Americans Month (OAM), a time to celebrate and honor the contributions that seniors have made and continue to make in our community and
nation; and
WHEREAS, OAM dates to 1963 when President John F. Kennedy, through a proclamation, designated May as Senior Citizens Month, which was later renamed Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, in honor of Older Americans Month, the Hawaiʻi County Office of Aging will be holding its annual Outstanding Older Americans Award Luncheon to celebrate and acknowledge the
remarkable contributions and efforts of our kūpuna in the community; and
WHEREAS, OAM’s event theme is “Flit the Script on Aging”, aiming to transform how society perceives, talks about, and approaches aging; and
WHEREAS, the Office of Aging is requesting funds to assist with expenses for kūpuna lunches; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Office of Aging to provide financial assistance
for the 2025 OAM Luncheon.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
