A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MERRIE MONARCH
FESTIVAL FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 62ND ANNUAL MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that perpetuates the memory and legacy of King David Kalākaua through an internationally renowned annual celebration
of hula and Hawaiian culture; and
WHEREAS, the week-long festival will begin on April 20, 2025, and includes an invitational arts fair, cultural demonstrations, hula performances, and a parade that showcases the many
cultures of Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, The Merrie Monarch Festival is requesting funds for expenses related to the 62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival for security and traffic services provided by off-duty Police
Officers; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of Hawai‘i’s
rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to The Merrie Monarch Festival for expenses related to the 62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
