RE; Support of Nomination of Rebecca Kawehi Inaba to the Leeward Planning Commission
Aloha e Fiawai'i County Council Members.

As a member of the Flawai'i State House of Representatives. i am honored to submit this
testimony in strong support of Mayor Kimo Alameda's nomination of Kawehi Inaba to serve on
the Leeward Planning Commission.
While i have not had the opportunity to work with Kawehi. i have long admired her
contributions to West l-lawai'i through her leadership at La'i'opua 2020 and beyond. 1 ier work
reflects a deep sense ofkuleana, cultural grounding. and an unwavering commitment to serving
our island community.
One powerful example of Kawehi's visionary leadership is the construction of a brand-new
preschool at La'i'opua 2020. More than just a school. this project represents a long-term
investment in our keiki and the future of our island. Through a meaningful partnership with
Hawai'i Community College at Palamanui. the preschool will also serve as a learning lab for
Early Childhood Education (ECE) students—creating hands-on opportunities for future
educators while expanding access to high-quality. culturally grounded early learning for West
families.
Kawehi's ability to guide with both compassion and clarity. while engaging thoughtfully in
complex issues. makes her a strong candidate for the Leeward Planning Commission. She brings
a valuable grounded in lived experience. community trust. and a deep understanding of how
policy can shape our future.
I am confident she will serve with integrity, balance, and aloha. i fully support her nomination
and encourage her confirmation.
