Aloha Honorable Hawaii County Council Members, -w My name is Yuki Ka`ea Lyons-Yglesias, and I am a lifelong advocate for `oleic Hawaii, cultural education, and community engagement through my work as an educator and radio personality. I am writing in full support of Kawehi Inaba's nomination to the Leeward Planning Commission. Kawehi is a powerful and purpose-driven woman whose commitment to our lahui is unwavering. She has served our community with grace, strength, and clarity— carrying kuleana in a way that is grounded in her aloha for our people and our `aina. I have seen firsthand the way she leads with humility and strength, and how she shows up not just in Jo titles or roles, but in the everyday moments of connection and support. What I admire most about Kawehi is her ability to navigate a wide range of spaces with authenticity and purpose. Whether she's engaging with decision-makers or sitting alongside kupuna and `ohana in our community, she shows up with the same respect, cultural grounding, and unwavering commitment to serve. Her leadership is rooted not in titles or recognition, but in action that uplifts others and moves us forward in meaningful ways. Planning for Hawai`i's future isn't just about maps and regulations—it's about understanding people, place, and history. Kawehi approaches this work with a deep cultural lens and a willingness to engage perspectives that are often left out. She knows that the best decisions are shaped by listening, learning, and honoring the voices of those who have cared for these lands long before us. It is with deep aloha and full confidence that I support her nomination. Kawehi will be an invaluable voice on the Leeward Planning Commission and a trusted steward of our island's future.
