As the outgoing Commissioner for the Leeward Planning Commission, I write with deep aloha and full confidence in support of Kawehi Inaba's nomination to serve in this important role. Having served on this Commission, I understand firsthand the weight of responsibility that comes with this kuleana. It requires not only knowledge of the issues, but a deep understanding of place, people, and the long-term impact of every decision. In Kawehi, I see someone who embodies all of these qualities—and more. Kawehi is a bold and culturally grounded leader who approaches her work with clarity, energy, and heart. Her commitment to the well-being of our `aina and its people is evident in every space she occupies—whether she's leading programs at La'i`opua 2020, supporting businesses through KOpa'a, or uplifting `ohana through her deep ties to the community. Her ability to navigate complexity while staying rooted in values is exactly what this Commission needs. She will not just fill a seat—she will serve with purpose. Kawehi understands the delicate balance between development and protection, and she leads with a perspective shaped by experience, kuleana, and aloha for future generations. She understands the balance—when to advocate, when to listen, and how to weave together the many voices that make up,our island home. Her decisions are not reactionary—they are rooted in `Ike kupuna, thoughtful reflection, and a true love for this 'aina and its people. As my time in this role has come to a close, I can speak from lived experience when I say—Kawehi is more than ready. She will serve with aloha, strength, and a deep kuleana that honors our past and safeguards our future. Mahalo for your earnest consideration of this written testimony.
