RE: Comm. 200: Nomination of Rebecca Kawehi Inaba to the Leeward Planning Commission
Aloha County Council Members,
My name is Valerie Poindexter and I am writing in strong support of Kawehi Inaba's nomination to the
County of Hawai'i's Leeward Planning Commission.
Although I no longer reside on Hawaii Island, I still work here for Lokahi Treatment Centers and
Hawaii will always be home. My deep connection to this place compels me to continue advocating for
leaders who will serve with integrity, care, and a true sense of kuleana. Kawehi is one of those
leaders, the kind our island deserves.
As a former Hawaii County Council Member, I understand the weight of responsibility that comes with
serving on the Leeward Planning Commission. It's not just about reviewing projects or interpreting
code, it's about protecting the essence of our communities while planning for a sustainable future.
Kawehi brings the right blend of experience, perspective, and heart to do just that.
Her track record in business, nonprofit leadership, and advocacy speaks for itself, but what sets her
apart is how she leads. She listens deeply, builds trust, and navigates tough conversations with
thoughtfulness and balance. She doesn't show up with an agenda, she shows up with intention.
I have no doubt Kawehi will serve with humility, clarity, and a deep commitment to malama this place
we all love. I urge her confirmation and offer my full support.
Mahalo for your time and consideration.
