AiDho COUDCii Members and Mayor,
My name is y4adeiaine Longoria Garcia, resident of Hovvoi'i Island, and | am writing in strong opposition
to Resolution 74 - 25: ICE MOU because it will negatively impact our Hawai'i community.
We cannot bring ICE into our local police force. This is one of few places in the entire nation and world
where our locat police force is still trusted, and it's because our police officers are our community
. members. They know us, we know them, and we aU want what is best for our community. Bringing ICE
agents into the police station will create an environment of distrust and fear within our communities. Our
local tax clottars should not be going to ICE and I refuse to allow my tax contributions to be used in this
way. ICE is known for racial. profiting, for using manipulative tactics that are technically illegal but
somehow allowed and encouraged in practice. Theyviolate civit rights, misuse their resources, and
coerce fotks into situations and conversations that are not upheld by any law.
Our communities are aLready scared. Our famities and keiki (citizens, residents, and undocumented)
have already been traumatized by ICE's aggressive actions across the island. Please do not allow ICE to
embed themselves into the Hawai'i Police Department and become a virus that deteriorates the
community's relationship with HPD. Do not taint our police officers' reputation by allowing ICE to
infiltrate.
Attowing the Hawai'i Police Department to engage in immigration enforcement undermines pubtic safety.
This resolution does not protect our community; instead, it fosters division and distrust. I strongly urge
the committee tooppose RemoKution 74-25and protect the integrity ofour iocaitaw enforcement.
