Subject: Opposition to Resolution 74-25
Aloha Hawaii County Operations and External Affairs Committee Members,
I want to express my extreme opposition to resolution 74-25 which woutcl involve HPID with ICE agent
operations (under Homeland Security Investigations) . This is cLearly a case of federal overreach.
I wouLd like to know why Hawaii County, the only county in Hawaii, is considering such an agreement.
President Trump is inappropriately calling in ICE as an essential. response to what he refers to
as invasion ofinnnnigranta,'who hgclaims emajority are criminals. This has incited great fear amongst
irnnligr@ntS.
Local. police should not have the authority to engage with ICE activities to enforce the arrest and
detention of immigrants. Approving this resolution would lead to greater racial profiLing and erosion of
trust inour community. Out of fear, Immigrants wouLd be retuctant to call. the potice if needed for
protection.
Furthermore, HPOiaseverely short staffed, they cannot even maintain their day today duties to
undertake more responsibilities.
The overall priority should be creating better paths to citizenship not deporting undocumented workers.
