Dear Chairman, _
I would like to take this opportunity to express my position regarding Resolution 246-00.
My comments are sustained with my present occupation as a Police Officer. I have
participated in many eradication missions, experiencing first hand the dangers
surrounding our attempts to make an impact on the growth of this illicit plant
(marijuana).
Your decision in this matters appears to be obscured by the latest events regarding Chief
W. Carvalho. Although the Chief was found guilty in the civil law suit, and that there is a
law which states that anyone found guilty of criminal fraud has to disclose this
information on an application for a grant, I believe that the Chief is not misusing these
moneys as many seem to perceive or suggest. I do not concur with these insinuations that
the Chief cannot nor should not apply for federal funds. Upon the receipt of the grant
money it is proportionally allotted to the specific program that it is earmarked for, and
nothing else.
SHOPO supports Chief Carvalho in his continued efforts to apply, and subsequently
receive, federal grant funds to help rid our tropical paradise of any illegally grown
marijuana.
In closing, I hope that this letter will address your concerns regarding the Unions
position.
