Subject: 2025 CIP Budget - Waikoloa
• Waikoloa Village faces the highest risk of devastating wildfires in Hawaii.
• With only one road in or out, the community of 7500+ residents cannot get out in time if a fast moving fire
burns into the Village.
• In 2021 Waikoloa was evacuated due to wildfire. Risk to our community is a proven fact.
• A new fire with the speed and intensity of Lahaina will result in the same scale of lost lives and property.
• This is a matter of public safety and failure to address it violates the County's responsibility both legally and
morally to its citizens.
• Funding for the initial engineering of Waikoloa's second arterial road must be included in the 2025
Capital Budget.
