�JN<r Of it <br />y •, <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAII <br />�Tf Cf •NFi1 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1419 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAI`I <br />INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE EXPERIENCE TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES <br />RELATING TO ITS FIVE-DAY SCIENCE EXCURSION AROUND HAWAI`I ISLAND. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii International Science Experience (RISE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization that aims to boost student confidence and inspire science, technology, engineering, <br />and mathematics learning and potential careers on Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, RISE will conduct a five-day science excursion around Hawaii Island for <br />over 50 students from Japan, Singapore, New York, Waiakea High School, Hilo High School, <br />Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, Parker School, and Kealakehe High School, which will also <br />include 20 educators and advisors and 30 student and community volunteers; and <br />WHEREAS, the excursion is scheduled for July 16-20, 2025, and will explore cutting - <br />edge science and sustainability practices, new partnerships and collaborations, and Hawai`i's <br />unique natural resources, island culture, and history; and <br />WHEREAS, HISS is requesting funds to assist with expenses for its five-day excursion <br />that include transportation expenses for the student board and their advisors to explore and assess <br />the initiatives and locations for the RISE excursion, fees and travel expenses for the science <br />speakers, and supplies and tools for the science excursion; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth <br />programs that promote public safety, education, and responsible lifestyle choices in alcohol- and <br />drug -free environments; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to HISS for the aforementioned expenses relating to its five- <br />day science excursion around Hawaii Island. <br />
