A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO YWCA OF HAWAI‘I
ISLAND FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS DEVELOPMENTAL PRESCHOOL.
WHEREAS, YWCA of Hawai‘i Island is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for
all; and
WHEREAS, YWCA Developmental Preschool has been in existence for over 60 years, providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for 90 children ages two through five; and
WHEREAS, food and labor costs have increased significantly for the YWCA Developmental Preschool, while overall funding opportunities have decreased, but it continues to provide a safe
space with nutritious meals and snacks to all its students to support working families, regardless of their economic status; and
WHEREAS, the YWCA Developmental Preschool is requesting funds to help defray expenses for the salaries of 20 support staff and for nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snacks for all its
students for the months of April through June 2025; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth programs that promote public safety, education, and responsible lifestyle choices in alcohol- and drug-free
environments; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to YWCA of Hawai‘i Island for expenses related to its Developmental Preschool.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
