HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 146 Draft 01 2024-2026F cP' COUNTY OF HAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAI`I 7TF tli.N'yi RESOLUTION NO. 14 6 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS HAWAI`I, INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR THE WEST HAWAI`I REGIONAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT. WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawaii, Inc. (SOH), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of skills, friendship with family, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community; and WHEREAS, SOH is requesting funds to assist with expenses for lunches for athletes, coaches, and volunteers, refreshments, lei, rental of a sound system and generator, DJ services, award ribbons, tents, and coolers, to provide a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities together with coaches and volunteers from across the region, fostering a sense of community and inclusion, which will serve a public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of needs of the poor, youth, the aged, and those with physical or emotional disabilities; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 are hereby transferred to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to SOH for the expenses and purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a (,opy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: FUND: ' General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $5,000 OUT AND FROM 010.101.5101.91 Clerk -Council SVC — Contingency Relief $5,000 CREDITED TO: 010.251.5251.39 Department of Liquor Control $5,000 Public Programs 115 Misc. In 2,000 characters or less, describe the project Special Olympics West Hawaii's Regional Softball Tournament provides a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities. The event will offer lunches, snacks, fruit, hydration, and awards to support the well-being of participants. This annual tournament brings together athletes, coaches, and volunteers from across the region, fostering a sense of community and inclusion. *51. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic -type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. *52. The organization is dedicated to providing year-round sports opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
