HAWAI‘I, INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR THE WEST HAWAI‘I REGIONAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT.
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawaiʻi, Inc. (SOH), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety
of olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate
in a sharing of skills, friendship with family, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community; and
WHEREAS, SOH is requesting funds to assist with expenses for lunches for athletes, coaches, and volunteers, refreshments, lei, rental of a sound system and generator, DJ services, award
ribbons, tents, and coolers, to provide a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities together with coaches and volunteers from across the region, fostering a sense of community
and inclusion, which will serve a public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of needs of the poor, youth, the aged, and those with physical or emotional disabilities;
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaiʻi County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief
funds from Council District 8 are hereby transferred to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to SOH for the expenses and purposes identified in “Exhibit A,” a copy of
which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below:
