A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO PŌHAKU PELEMAKA
FOR ITS HOʻOWEHE I KA NIU SUMMER CAMP.
WHEREAS, Pōhaku Pelemaka is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect, perpetuate, and enhance the intrinsic qualities of lower Puna, the well-being of Native Hawaiians,
and the heritage of Hawaiʻi Island by working in partnership with agencies and organizations in the public and private sectors; and
WHEREAS, Pōhaku Pelemaka will be hosting its Hoʻowehe I Ka Niu summer camp on July 3-6, 2025, at Kaʻakepa, Puna, which will provide educational and cultural opportunities for youth in
the community of Puna makai; and
WHEREAS, Hoʻowehe I Ka Niu summer camp promotes the transmission of intergenerational knowledge from kupuna to keiki, with a major focus on the niu plant and how to use, protect, and
care for it; and
WHEREAS, Pōhaku Pelemaka is requesting funds for stipends for Hawaiian cultural practitioners, food and beverages, and the purchase of tents, tables, and chairs; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth programs, such as Hoʻowehe I Ka Niu, that are alcohol-free and drug-free; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Pōhaku Pelemaka for its Hoʻowehe I Ka Niu summer camp.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
