In my capacity as Director at Hawai'i Community College-Palamanui and as Director on the Board of La`i`opua 2020, I have had the privilege of working closely with Kawehi both as a valued community partner and in her role as Executive Director of La` 6pua 2020. Throughout our collaboration, Kawehi has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, deep cultural grounding, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being and advancement of our West Hawaii community. Kawehi embodies a profound sense of kuleana for West Hawaii, consistently approaching her work with fairness, transparency, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of both our people and our `aina. Her extensive professional background —spanning business, nonprofit leadership, and community/college advocacy —has equipped her with a unique ability to unite diverse voices, listen attentively, and seek thoughtful, balanced solutions that respect both progress and preservation. Kawehi's leadership is a testament to her deep respect for our community's values and her vision for its future. Her leadership is firmly grounded in the values of piling, laulima, and malama, ensuring that every decision is made with the intention of uplifting our community while honoring the cultural and environmental uniqueness of Hawaii.
