Makamo Koho]o Kehahoi stands in strong support nfResolution 12O-35tothe purchase ofUpo|u
Point, North Kbhe|a. VVeare a22+year old project of the North Knhm|eCommunity Resource
Center dedicated to preserving the North Kohala coast in open space.
Since 2010,Uhe community since has participated in the preservation of eight parcels of land on
the leeward coast and five significant porceondatedtoKamehannehuunthenorthnoonLThin
parcel connects the continuous historical and cultural lands named for protection in the North
Kohm|8Community Development Plan (Ordinance 0O-151\. The site @tUpO|u links Hawaii to
the rest of the Pacific by its name, placement on the north tip and traditional Polynesian
practices.
The goal articulated by the community for this land is to perpetuate this area's
regional and international significance oaaoononnunitv-mupportedo|aoeofocoan|earningUlsdio
a "lihikai", a link between the land and sea. The long-term vision for this coast is a contiguous
historical corridor that tells the story ofKbha|m and engages locals and visitors in respectful
educational, research, environmental, recreational, and cultural activities that also support
resource -related jobs and local businesses.
