Aloha Members of the Council:
My name is Lisa Greenwell Hummel. I live in Kona, Hawai'i and I am the President of the Board of
Directors for Kona Historical Society., I am testifying today in support of CRF Resolution No, 131-25.
The Kona Historical Society is proud to partner with exhibit creator Leandra Rouse to present The Kona
Beekeeping Legacy Project. This project highlights Kona's essential role in the global beekeeping
industry through a captivating combination of a mini -documentary, a museum exhibit, and a keiki field
trip program. This will be our first exhibit po st-Covid, and we are thrilled to welcome guests to our
historic site to enjoy this multi -media exhibit and learn about the vital role bees play in Kona's
agricultural landscape.
Kona Historical Society is hosting the exhibit in our H.N. Greenwell Store Museum at Kalukalu, and we
are incorporating the exhibit into our award -winning school field trip program to serve local keiki.
Funding from the County of Hawai'i Contingency Relief Funds will support the marketing and promotion
efforts of the Kona Beekeeping Legacy Project exhibit and related programs. It is our expectation that
these promotion efforts will bring kama'dina and visitors of all ages to the Kona Historical Society, where
they may visit the exhibit free of charge from April through July 2025.
This exhibit will, among other things, preserve vital stories of Kona's history. This is central to Kona
Historical Society's mission to preserve the history of Kona, I believe this aligns with the County's goals
as well.
I encourage you to vote yes on CRF Resolution No. 1 '31-25.
