Dear Chairman Arakaki and Member of the Hawaii County Council:
RE: Resolution No. 246-00
C. Brewer and Company, Limited is in support of the marijuana eradication project of the
County of Hawaii. C. Brewer subsidiaries own 31,000 acres in Ka'u and 24,000 acres along
the Hamakua Coast. We hear from our lessees that marijuana is planted in many areas of
abandoned cane land and in the forest reserve. It is impossible for us to monitor everything
that happens on our land, and the County's program to eradicate marijuana will go a long
way to reduce the criminal activity that is occurring on our land and on the land of other large
landowners, including the State of Hawaii.
May I thank Lieutenant Henry Tavares and the Hawaii County Police Department for their
efforts to continue this program and for giving us the opportunity to support this very
worthwhile project. In the past, we have given general rights of entry to the police to enter
our lands for the purpose of investigating criminal activity and we shall continue to do so.
