PURCHASE EQUIPMENT FOR ITS COMMUNITY MĀLA PROJECTS.
WHEREAS, Laʻiʻōpua 2020 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide social, recreational, vocational, educational, and cultural opportunities to the communities
in Kona; and
WHEREAS, one of Laʻiʻōpua 2020’s outreach efforts is its community māla (garden) projects, which provides hands-on learning, food sovereignty education, and cultural engagement for youth,
kūpuna, and families alike; and
WHEREAS, Laʻiʻōpua 2020 is requesting funds to purchase a portable generator and a tiller for its community māla projects; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support public programs that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Laʻiʻōpua 2020 to purchase equipment for its community māla projects.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
