Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement with the University of Hawai`i, Office of
Research Services.to provide funding for the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human
Resources. Funds of$14,805 will be provided to support the development and implementation
of the Master Food Volunteer Program in Hawai`i County.

A. REQUEST:.
This is a request to enter into an agreement with the University of Hawaii, Office of Research Services, for
the County of Hawaii to provide a grant in the amount of$14,805.00,for College of Tropical Agriculture and
Human Resources (CTAHR),to support the development and implementation of the Master Food Volunteer
(MFV) Program in Hawai'i
County.This initiative will train and certify volunteers to deliver place-based food and nutrition education
through cooking demonstrations, local food tastings, and community outreach across all nine districts of the
island.
The appropriation is from Ordinance 24-32. AGRICULT1.2F 010.161.5161.22.115.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The University of Hawaii CTAHR Cooperative Extension will pilot a Master Food Volunteer program to
expand food and nutrition education across Hawaii Island. The program will train and certify 10 community
volunteers to deliver cooking demonstrations, local food tastings, and outreach events in all nine districts.
The initiative supports the Department's Agriculture and Food Systems Program objectives by increasing
consumption of local agricultural products, improving food literacy, and strengthening community ties to local
producers.
The appropriation will be used for curriculum development, training materials, volunteer coordination, and
program delivery.
