RE: Opposition to Bill 47
Dear Chairwoman Kierkiewicz and Vice Chair Galimba,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 47.
By both law and long-standing convention, legislation that fails before the County Council is not to be
reintroduced for two years.Yet less than six months after the failure of a very similar measure, this bill is
being brought back under a technical loophole. This circumvention undermines public trust and subjects
our community to a constant barrage of unpopular proposals. Residents deserve the peace of knowing
that when a matter is settled, it will stay settled—at least for a reasonable period.
Moreover, following the broad public opposition to Bill 121,the County wisely commissioned an
economic impact study to better understand the size, scope, and consequences of regulating this
industry. That study has not yet been completed. Proceeding with new legislation before the results are
available is both premature and irresponsible. We all deserve a process grounded in facts, not political
maneuvering.
Please do the right thing and vote no on Bill 47.
Sincerely,
Joshua Montgomery
