RESOLUTION NO. 190 25
A RESOLUTION AWARDING THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I "WAIWAI" NONPROFIT
GRANTS-IN-AID FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2025-2026.
WHEREAS, Section 2-139(a)(1)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code states that the Director
of Finance shall establish a sum of at least$2,500,000 to be available for funding requests by
nonprofit organizations through the County of Hawai`i"Waiwai" grants-in-aid program; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Sections 2-136 and 2-137 of the Hawaii County Code,
nonprofit organizations to receive grant funding shall yield direct benefits to the public and
accomplish public purposes within the County through programs that benefit, improve, or
promote the interests of educational concerns, culture and the arts, needs of the poor,youth,the
aged,those with physical or emotional disabilities,victims of crimes, victims of health or social
crises, or public health and welfare of the people and the environment; and
WHEREAS, on February 4, 2025,the Council's Committee on Legislative Approvals
and Acquisitions (LAAC) formed an Ad Hoc Committee for the purpose of reviewing nonprofit
applications and making award recommendations; and
WHEREAS, at a meeting of the LAAC on May 20,2025,the Ad Hoc Committee
submitted its recommendations via Communication No. 100.3 to award"Waiwai"grants-in-aid
to 66 eligible programs for a total of$2,520,000; and
WHEREAS, a list of the recommended nonprofit organizations to receive funding is
attached hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit A; now,therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that
pursuant to Section 2-139 of the Hawai`i County Code, "Waiwai" grants-in-aid totaling
$2,520,000 shall be awarded to the nonprofit organizations as set forth in Exhibit A.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that pursuant to Section 2-139 of the Hawai`i County
Code,the Director of Finance shall notify the nonprofit organizations of their funding or lack
thereof by August 31, 2025.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Finance.
