REQUEST: This is a request to enter into a 5-year agreement with the University of Hawaii at Manoa for the purpose of sharing half of the cost to fund two additional Extension Agents positions in Hawaii County. The positions will cover Indigenous Crops/East Hawaii Master Gardeners and East Hawaii Livestock. Payment to the State will be for half of the salary and benefits for the two Extension Agents. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): Department of of Research and Development commissioned a contractor to conduct a survey of agricultural producers on their needs to increase and improve their production and businesses. Within 24 hours, the contractor received 268 responses. Increasing the number of Extension Agents to provide technical assistance was one of the top responses.
