The monthly cost will be approximately $20,823.62. The equipment will be used island wide by the Department of Public Works Highways Division to perform routine maintenance functions. REQUEST: The Department of Public Works Highways Division is requesting a resolution authorizing the payment of funds of a later fiscal year and of more than one fiscal year for a multi-year lease of four(4) grapple trucks for the Districts of South Hilo, North and South Kona, North and South Kohala and Puna. The lease to purchase would be for a period of no more than five (5) years. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The grapple trucks will be used islandwide to assist DPW Highways personnel with performing regular maintenance like picking up roadside debris, i.e..tires, large appliances, furniture, etc., clearing drainage systems, trash removal, emptying of County trash receptacles and other duties that will make operations more efficient with a truck equipped with an extended arm and loader capabilities. The addition of grapple trucks to Highways operations and inventory will improve productivity and efficiency and aid in the safety of personnel. The grapple trucks will be used for trash and debris removal, clearing of flood channels and drainage systems, and from other areas with limited access. This lease is for a period of no more than five (5) years. The total purchase price for all four(4) grapple trucks is $1,249,416.96. The estimated lease cost is approximately $20,823.62 per month or$249,883.44 annually. The County will own the grapple trucks at the end of the five (5) year lease period.
